We are Year 5 Stingray Class

Welcome to Year 5!  This page should keep you up to date with what we're doing this term in Year 5.

Scroll down for some of the sites we've used in class and some good links for homework help.

Spring term is here! We have a brand new school topic - 'Our Wonderful World', and a new teacher - Miss Sinnott.

So far we have been investigating fractions in Maths, started reading a new class text, 'The Girl of Ink and Stars' in English (which is about the adventures of a cartographers daughter), and  in Science we are looking at animals and their habitats this term - not only around the world but right here in our School environment - how can we encourage more plants and animals to make their homes here?

Geography is our main focus this term, and we kicked off our topic with a fun lesson about the outlines of each of the World's continents - by making them out of spaghetti!

Oh the places Stingrays will go with their learning!

This term, our topic is CODE BREAKERS!!

We have discovered that codes are everywhere!

Well done to everyone for a brilliant effort with the shoeboxes this year!  We smashed last year's total and set a new record of 102 boxes for Albania (plus 2 from local residents makes it 104!)  They were loaded into Mr Ayers's car ready to go to the Baptist Church to be sorted before leaving for Albania.

The children at Berrow were mystified by the scene they found as they arrive at school on Thursday 16th November.  See the newspaper report below to find out what had happened.

Shoeboxes for Albania

It's time for our annual shoebox appeal again for the children in Albania who otherwise may not get anything at all this Christmas.  We have supported this campaign for the past two years and the deadline for filled shoeboxes this year is Friday 24th November.  If you have taken a shoebox home to fill and, for whatever reason, you are no longer able to do so, please can you return the box to school?  Then someone else will be able to take your box to fill.  Thank you.
