Year 2

Class Teacher: Miss Moxey

Class LSA: Miss I

Term six

Our value this term is friendship.

Our enquiry is: What will we see when we explore the world?

Following on from the previous learning enquiries that focused on the local area, children will explore the wider world and deepen their geographical knowledge of the world’s continents and oceans. Children will investigate what it is like in hot and cold countries with a focus on the polar regions and countries near the equator. Children will compare the human and physical features of these areas with their locality. Children will have the opportunity to study Kenya and understand the diverse nature of the country. They will study a Kenyan village in detail, comparing life there to their own.

Maths

This term, children will continue to consolidate their strategies for multiplication and division and strengthen their understanding of the two, five and ten timetables. We will then move on to our measuring unit, where we will choose and use appropriate standard units to estimate and measure length/height in any direction (m/cm); mass (kg/g); temperature (°C); capacity (litres/ml) to the nearest appropriate unit, using rulers, scales, thermometers and measuring vessels.

English

In English, our focus text will be Billy and the Pirates by Nadia Shireen.  Our narrative outcome for this term will be to write 3 additional problems that Billy might run into. We will describe the characters' appearance and personalities using expanded noun phrases, and choose verbs carefully to reflect the way the characters act.

R.E

How do we celebrate the Journey through Life?

In RE, we will identify some important events in their lives and important events that might happen to them as they get older. We will learn about how important times in life are marked and expressed by different groups, e.g. birth, marriage, death and naming ceremonies. We will identify some artefacts and symbols associated with events that mark important times in life.

PSHE

Changing Me Puzzle piece

In PSHE, we will understand that everyone is unique and special and understand and respect the changes that they see in themselves and others. We will also recognise the physical differences between boys and girls, use the correct names for parts of the body (penis, testicles, vulva, vagina, anus) and appreciate that some parts of my body are private.
