Term Six
Our value this term: Friendship
This term our enquiry will be "How do animals survive and thrive?'
Throughout this enquiry, we will build upon the children's prior knowledge and understanding of living things. In year 4, we will develop and further our learning on living processes and how we affect the environment.
Enquiry questions:
What makes me human?
What do I need to survive?
How do nature’s species adapt to the environment?
Why do we need to protect different species?
How does our climate impact survival?
How have different communities adapted to where they live?
How can change impact nature?
How can I keep healthy?
English
In English this term, we will be reading the text 'The Song of the Nightingale'. This narrative follows the creation of the Earth and all of its creatures. However, the creatures have been left without colour, and it is left to a painter to give them their colour. The children will use learning regarding animal characteristics and adaptation they have acquired during our enquiry lessons to write their own different version, where rather than a painter, an inventor gives them the 'tools' they need to survive in the wild. We will continue to develop our reading skills by retrieving information, inferring the text to understand character's feelings and emotions and exploring new vocabulary. The children will use these skills to visualise, predict and sequence events to showcase their understanding.
Maths
In Maths this term, we will be looking at symmetry with shape, time and division with remainders.
Art/DT
In DT we will be looking at and adapting recipes, and the children will design and create a new 'healthy' biscuit.
PSHE
Our topic for Term five in PSHE is changing me.
RE
This term in RE will be studying different faiths and in particular, looking at Hinduism.
