Year 3

Class Teacher: Mr Purchase
Supportive Teaching Team: Isabelle Belton
Term five
Our value this term: courage
This term our enquiry will be "How do civilisations grow?"
English
In English this term, we will be reading our anchor text ‘The Egyptian Cinderella' by Shirley Climo. We will continue to develop our reading skills by retrieving information, inferring the text and exploring new and familiar vocabulary from our anchor text. In writing, we will be working towards developing short burst writes based on our class text and developing skills to improve these before trying to write 2 final pieces: our own fairy tale innovation and an information leaflet.
Maths
In Maths, in term five, children will develop their understanding of column addition and subtraction in our fluency lessons alongside starting to look at unit and non-unit fractions. Throughout the term, children will be practising their timetables, focusing on previously taught tables to ensure confidence and fluency as well as learning the threes.
Science
As scientists this term, we will be looking at plants. We will be looking at the structure of a plant and the different parts while also looking at their functions and how they live and grow. We will be trying to determine the optimal growing conditions for plants using different observation and testing skills.
PSHE
In term five, our topic is 'Relationships'. This focuses on looking at what relationships and what they look like to us, as well as how we can strengthen relationships with people we know. We will also be looking into our 'No outsiders' area in class worship and how this links to our PSHE topic of differences.
PE
This term in PE, year 3 will be looking to develop their static balance as well as agility with reaction and response alongside learning how to play netball.
