What is my village like?

Term 5 Overview of Learning

This term we will be learning all about the local area of Berrow, Brean and Burnham-on-Sea.  We will be looking at maps, finding where we live, learning how to recognise human and physical geographical features and then creating our own maps.  We will be looking at how the local area has changed over time, exploring photographs from different periods of time and comparing them to photos taken from 'today'.

Maths

This term we will be learning about time and starting to explore numbers 11-20 before going on to count confidently to 100. We will continue our Mastery of Number sessions in the afternoon. 

English

This term our book is 'The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch'.  We will continue to use our understanding of nouns and adjectives and learn all about verbs and how they add to a sentence.  We will be re-telling the story of Mr Grinling and the 'pesky' seagulls. 

Throughout the term we will continue to focus on handwriting.  

Science

This term we will continue to look at how the seasons change throughout the year.  We will also be looking at one of the mini enquiry questions "How has the weather changed our local area?".  We will be reviewing prior learning about plants and the features of a plant and a tree.

History

This term we are looking at how our local area has changed over time. We will be doing a local walk, looking at maps and photos.

Geography

We will continue to look at the seasons and how they change - linking to science. We will look at human and physical features of the world around us and explore maps.

Art over term 5 and 6

In Art, our focus artists this term are Marc Chigall and Pierre-Auguste Renior. 

DT over term 5 and 6

In DT, we will be designing, building and evaluating our own windmill.

PSHE

This term we will be learning about relationships and how they impact us.

RE

This term we will be looking into the Christian and Hindu religions and learning about why places are special to their religions.

Computing

This term we will be creating media using digital imagery.

Music

In music, we will be exploring sound patterns.

Forest School

Forest school is every Monday, children need to bring in Wellington boots that they do not mind getting 'very' muddy. 

PE

PE is every Monday and Tuesday.  Please can PE kits be bought into school in a bag.  PE kit needs to be named as children will get changed in class.  

Trips and experiences

We are really lucky this term and are welcoming a visitor in to class to tell us all about the seaside.
